Saint Jovite, Quebec

Mont Tremblant Village is lovely and has everything one would need if you were staying a short time and in a hotel. However if one is staying a bit longer and has access to a kitchen, finding a reasonably priced grocery store is difficult in a ski resort. So…off we go on a 10 kilometre drive to the charming town of Saint Jovite.

Aside: Where is Saint Jovite you ask? It is in the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec, about 130 kms NW of Montreal.

We discover a fairly large town that seems very welcoming.

Street parking is free for four hours so let’s park and take a stroll before grocery shopping. DSCF0735a

I have learned that every community in Quebec seems to be centered around a lovely old church. So naturally there is one in Saint Jovite. (Rather a different architectural style than many we have seen around the province. )DSCF0729a

The main street is obviously a source of pride for the residents…well maintained, nicely landscaped, charming displays and storefronts. For example, check out this entrance to a florist and antique shop.DSCF0733aThere are antique shops (Quebec seems to have a lot of them!), gift shops with quality merchandise, and a large number of hair dressers.

Several art galleries sell original, gorgeous work in a variety of mediums.

One never knows where public art is going to be on display or what medium it will be done in.

There are several restaurants and pastry shops with delicious aromas wafting out the doors. We have lunch at Restaurant Antipasto…in a remodeled old train station. (French onion soup seems a good choice! Delicious!)DSCF0737a

Just outside the restaurant is a large mural…DSCF0739a

…showing people meeting the train

in the middle of winter. (remember to click on the photo)

Several murals are to be found throughout Saint Jovite, celebrating the history of the area. What fun strolling and learning about the area.

And yes, we finally did find and shop in a large reasonably priced grocery store!

Later in the week we return to have lunch in an excellent restaurant on the road into Saint Jovite….Creperie Catherine.
