Hope…that one word conjures up a lot of images, doesn’t it.

I bet one of those images is not art work carved out of wood with a chain saw, was it!

Well, once you  visit Hope, British Columbia in Western Canada and walk the streets with us you just may picture chain saw art when you hear the word Hope.

Welcome to Hope, British Columbia.

The community is set between two mountain ranges which basically run north and south. Since most travelers in this area are heading east or west it makes for difficult, but interesting, highway routes, but Hope benefits from this.

You see Hope is built along the banks of two large rivers that converge here. Since many highways follow the same valleys that the rivers do, several highways converge here in Hope.

Outdoor enthusiasts love this area, but I do not fit in that category.

The film industry loves this area, but I do not work in films.

However, I do love art and culture…

and there is lots of art to see as you wander the streets.

Did you notice the fish? Why is there a man peeking out of the tree trunk? And what on earth is on his head!

I prefer seeing wildlife this way, instead of meeting it in the woods.

Oh, now this is beautiful!

There must be a First Nations legend behind this carving.

Oh, I forgot to mention…all these statues are carved out of wood,

using a chain saw!

Hint: Go to the visitor centre and ask for a map showing where these and many other carvings are throughout the town.

If you wander outside of the town, watch out for bears!

This one is safe though.
