Where in the world were we when we took that photo and bought that painting?

Here is one final photo which may help you if you did not get it on your own. This one was taken from Plaza de Mayo.

That tall white needle in the distance is an obelisk…

Re clue 1: The avenue is 9 de Julio and it is known as the widest avenue in the world. The Obelisk is located at the intersection of 9 de Julio and Corrientes (the street that leads to the entertainment centre of BA).

Re clue 2: The subway system in BA is of a unique design. All the subway lines come together at one central point…under Plaza de la Republica (The Obelisk is in the center of Plaza de la Republica). This is efficient if you are heading into the downtown area. However, if you want to travel to a place located on a different line than the one you are on, you would have to travel to the central point, change trains, and travel back out again away from the downtown. Interesting concept.
