Here is the answer to Travel Quiz 6 Where in the World?

 

Remember the children’s song that starts “sur la pont d’Avignon,On y danse, On y danse”

Well this is the bridge that inspired that song. We are in Avignon, France and this is Le pont d’Avignon…Avignon Bridge (or more accurately St. Benezet Bridge).

Built in the 13th century it was, at that time, the only bridge in the area crossing the Rhone river so it was very well used. It also was frequently damaged by the flood waters of the Rhone but kept being rebuilt. Finally in the 17th century it was abandoned.

 

When you visit Avignon go through the entrance at river level where you will see a movie that tells the legend of the bridges construction and the song that has made it world famous. Then walk up the steps and walk/dance on the bridge.
