In Cape Town South Africa is a posh area known as

V&A Waterfront (Hmm…V and A waterfront).

What does V&A stand for? Well, think British royalty…Queen V__.

Yes, of course, Queen Victoria.

Now the A in V&A…Victoria and ______?

I bet you said Victoria and Albert. Right? So did I.

But V&A actually stands for Victoria and Alfred (Alfred being her son).

Let’s take a quick look around the V&A Waterfront.

It seems as if there is a lot to see here!

There is the Clock  Tower…which is often used as a marker when giving directions.

Quite a view, eh.

Lots of shopping in the area. There is the huge modern shopping mall plus smaller areas.

One big area is an indoor market where the products are undeniably African.

There is an aquarium on the waterfront..Two Oceans Aquarium

and…OMG…what is that!

Definitely catches ones eye, doesn’t it.

I shall name him Lego Man…

but I gather the locals call him Elliot and he is made from Coca cola crates, not Lego. Go figure!

Right next to him is a more traditional art installation…Nobel Square.

DSCF3263aThe statues honour South Africa’s four Nobel Peace Prize Lauretes

Albert Luthuli (1960), Desmond Tutu (1984), FW de Klerk (1993) and Nelson Mandela (1993)

The ferris wheel is in operation..shall we go for a ride?

Buskers are performing. A band is ready to start their set in the V&A amphithetre.

Quite a happening place this is!

But we have time to take the Canal Cruise (part of the Hop-on hop-off bus ticket)

so let’s go explore the canal.

Some rather posh apartments along here, eh?
