Gaiety Theatre, Dublin

The most authentic place to see an Irish play or musical would be in Ireland. Right?

Of course!

So the best place to see Riverdance would be in Ireland…and since Dublin’s Gaiety Theatre is the Irish home of Riverdance that is where we are headed. Join us as we attend a performance.DSCN0830a

First we have to find the theatre. Our directions say it is just off Grafton Street, close to St. Stephen’s Green.

Grafton Street. That’s a long, busy pedestrian only street in downtown Dublin. (I remember that from our hop on hop off bus tour today.) And St. Stephen’s Green is that large park with a huge marble arch gateway that reminded me of Marble Arch in London. We are in the right area so look carefully. Aha! There is the theatre sign.

Can you see the Gaiety sign? Look up.

There is the theatre entrance and box office where we can pick up our tickets.

The performance does not start for another hour and a half (It did not take us as long as we thought to find the theatre!) But it is better to be early than late isn’t it.

Let’s explore the shopping mall right across the street.

What a delightful colour scheme and delicate ironwork. What does it remind me of? Hmm…I know I saw that design today on one of the many bridges that cross the Liffey River here in Dublin. Ha’Penny Bridge I believe. Or was it Halfpenny Bridge?

My how time flies! Let’s head into the theatre.

Gorgeous isn’t it.

(But they do need a larger Ladies bathroom!!)

Oh look up. What a gorgeous ceiling. The green is appropriate, don’t you agree. (You can click on any photo to make it larger.)

The lights are starting to dim. So sit back and enjoy the show.

Highly recommended. Unfortunately copyright laws do not allow us to take photos during the performance, but you have my word that it is a performance well worth seeing. It tells a story, the dancing is excellent, and the music is authentically Irish .
