Kissing the Blarney Stone

It was a long  climb to the top of Blarney Castle, but here we are. The views from up here are special…and green. The grounds are so extensive that one sees very few buildings but acres and acres of lovingly tended gardens and woodlands.

Getting back to the story of our visit…

(This is part 2 of our visit. If you did not read part 1, go to The Best Thing About Blarney Castle.)

Ah, this is why it took so long to get to the top of the castle. Everyone gets to kiss the Blarney Stone! Logical, as that is why most of us came to the castle in the first place. But where is the Stone and why is there someone laying on the castle floor?

Oh, dear. Can I do that? Can I lay down on my back, stick my head down that opening, and then get back up again…just to kiss a piece of stone that millions of others have kissed before me? Oh, dear!

Oh, dear! Can I actually do that!

Oh, dear! Can I actually do that!

Maybe I should not have looked down. But then again, maybe I am glad I looked and realized that there are metal bars which will prevent me from going all the way back to ground level if I lose my grip!

There's the Blarney Stone.

There’s the Blarney Stone.

Of course I can do this! After all this is why I came to Ireland. And these nice Irishmen are here to assist me. Let’s do it!

Whew! I did it! That was not all that difficult.

Yes, that was the best thing about Blarney Castle…or so I thought until we saw

the delightful way some of the trees along the pathway are decorated. I love it! Now that is the best thing…no, that is the best unexpected thing about Blarney Castle.

I invite you to check them out in my other reports from Ireland.
