On this part of the tour we see how the unique look of Waterford Crystal is created. If you have not read Part 1 of this tour yet you may/ may not  wish to read Waterford Crystal tour to learn how we got to this stage of the crystal making process.

So you are thinking “That does not look like the Waterford Crystal I have seen in stores.” Right?

No fear. We are about to learn how that unique look is created.wtfrd25a

Those lines on the crystal look rather ugly now, but they guide the Master Cutters as they create the designs we know as Waterford Crystal.

Markings on pre-cut crystal.

And here is one of those Master Cutters at work.

An intense, lengthy apprenticeship is served before one gets the designation of Master at the House of Waterford Crystal.

Next, on to the Sculpting Room.

Here we are privileged to watch more Masters at work on commissioned pieces.

And what awesome pieces are created. Let us just enjoy a few of them.

This special piece was created after New York’s firefighters rescued an Irish priest during 911 tragedy.

There is so much more to see when you are actually in the factory. Hopefully I have given you just enough to whet your desire to see more.

But now our guided tour is over and we exit onto the showroom/retail floor again. (Good marketing, right?)

Parking

There are many parking lots around Waterford but I strongly recommend going to the Bolton Street Car park.

It is within a 2 minute walk of the Waterford Visitor Centre. Just follow the signs to Bolton Street. (Hint: You do not have to pay for parking on Sunday.)

I invite you to check them out in my other postings about our visit to Ireland.
